In December 2019, THQ Nordic released a playable Gothic remake prototype asking for public opinion on a possible modern remake of the classic RPG. While the original was the work of the German studio Piranha Bytes, the described game was developed by the Spanish team at Barcelona Studio, created by THQ Nordic, which from May 2019 holds the rights to the brand, and also owns the team at Piranha Bytes.
